Extreme Makeover - The Saga Continues

I have experienced some complications from my open heart surgery that landed me back in the hospital for several more days.

Shortly after returning home from my initial stay, I began to experience a rapid shortness of breath. I have been working with a visiting home nurse and a rehabilitation specialist. At first I thought I might have been taking things to quickly and pushing myself too much.

I was instructed to continue working with my respiration exercises to allow the lungs to open fully from the effects of my surgery. For several more days I did this but found I was becoming winded more and more easily. I could not lay down without experiencing greater breathing difficulty. I was forced to sleep in a sitting position and unable to sleep for more that a couple of hours at a time.

After a follow-up appointment with my cardiologist, I was readmitted to the hospital and a procedure called Thoracentesis was performed on each of my lungs to drain excess fluids that had collected from the initial surgery.

After another 4 days in the hospital, I was discharged today and am happy to report that I'm at home again and feeling 415% better.

Thanks to those that wished me well during this period. I cannot tell you how much it has meant to me and my family. Thank you.
